Puppy Adoption Information

Upcoming Plans

Our next breeding cycle is expected to begin sometime between August and September. If all goes well, puppies would likely be born in October or November and go home around December or January.

As always, timing can change, but we will continue updating our website and communicating with families as plans develop.

We truly appreciate everyone who follows our program and supports what we are building at Blue Roof Bostons.

Bringing Home a Blue Roof Boston Puppy

At Blue Roof Bostons, our goal is to place each puppy in the right home, not just the next home. We keep our program intentionally small, raise all puppies in our home, and focus on long-term health, temperament, and overall fit for each family.

We understand that adding a puppy to your home is a major decision, and we strive to make the process transparent, fair, and personal from the very beginning.

1. Initial Inquiry

Families typically reach out through our website, email, or social media. Beginning in 2026, we will also be introducing an online application form to help streamline the process and better organize future inquiries.

We are always happy to answer questions about:

  • Upcoming litters

  • Expected timing

  • Our breeding program

  • Temperament and health

  • What to expect throughout the process

The best way to reach us is by email or phone.

2. Our Contact List & Puppy Placement Process

We maintain a contact list for future litters and place families in chronological order based on initial contact.

We do not take deposits to hold spots on the list.

This helps keep the process flexible and fair for everyone. Life circumstances change, timing may not line up, and some families choose to pursue a puppy elsewhere while waiting. We completely understand that, and there are never any hard feelings.

Our contact list has grown significantly and currently includes 80+ families. While this may sound intimidating, placement often moves faster than expected once puppies arrive. Some families pass on a litter while waiting for:

  • A specific gender

  • Certain markings or color patterns

  • Better timing for their household

Others may no longer be looking by the time we reach out.

For example, in our most recent litter, we placed 10 puppies and reached out through approximately 39 families on the list before all puppies were spoken for.

When Joining the List, We Ask For:
  • Your location

  • Phone number and email

  • Male or female preference

  • Color or markings preference, if any

Important Notes About Placement

Placement is based on:

  • Timing

  • Preferences

  • Overall fit for the puppy and family

Being on the list does not guarantee a puppy from a specific litter, as availability depends on litter size and the preferences of families ahead of you.

As litters become available, families are contacted in order. If a family chooses to wait for a future litter, they remain on the list and often move up as puppies are placed.

We try very hard to keep this process as fair and straightforward as possible for everyone involved.

3. Litter Updates & Communication

Once puppies arrive, families on our list are contacted as puppies become available.

We also livestream each litter on YouTube from birth until go-home day so families can follow along and watch the puppies grow and develop in real time.

We know the waiting process can be exciting and difficult at the same time, and we love giving families the opportunity to stay connected throughout the puppies’ early weeks.

4. Puppy Selection

Puppy selection typically takes place closer to go-home time, once personalities begin to emerge.

At that stage, we help guide families toward a puppy that best fits:

  • Their household

  • Lifestyle

  • Energy level

  • Experience with dogs

  • Long-term expectations

Our focus is always on creating successful, lasting matches for both the puppy and the family.

5. Go-Home Day

Puppies go home at 8+ weeks of age.

Each puppy goes home with:

  • A full veterinary examination

    • Any findings are disclosed and discussed openly with potential owners. Transparency is extremely important to us.

  • First vaccine and routine deworming completed

  • Health records from our veterinarian at Fairport Animal Hospital

  • Our health guarantee

  • Starter bag of the food the puppies are raised on

  • A blanket and toy carrying their littermates’ scent to help ease the transition into their new home

We do everything we can to prepare our puppies for a smooth and successful transition into family life.

6. After Adoption

Our relationship with our families does not end at pickup day.

We are always available for:

  • Questions

  • Advice

  • Updates

  • Ongoing support throughout your dog’s life

We also maintain an open-door policy for every dog we place. If a family ever experiences a major life change and can no longer care for their dog, we want to help ensure that dog always has a safe place to go.

For our local families, we also offer:

  • Pet sitting

  • Grooming services

One of the best parts of this program is staying connected and watching our puppies grow into beloved family members.
